Get to Know Jeni, CARE's Clinical Research Manager
Meet Jeni, CARE’s newest team member whose passion for oncological research and dedication to patient care shine through in everything she does.
What is your role at CARE?
As the Clinical Research Manager, I get to combine my love for oncological research with my knack for operations to drive success for CARE and, most importantly, improve the lives of our patients. It’s truly the best of both worlds!
How did you get involved with CARE?
Everything happens for a reason. CARE needed me, and I needed CARE…
After 20 years working in oncology at Northwest Medical Specialties, I took a break from healthcare. It wasn’t until a few years later, sitting in a doctor’s office with my son, that I realized how much I missed helping patients. I reached out to Mark Nelson, CEO of Northwest Medical Specialties, who I’d worked closely with during my time at Northwest, and he connected me with Dr. Senecal. Next, I met Sally, followed by a call with the rest of the CARE team—Jodi, Sally, and Sam. Getting back into oncological research and collaborating with this incredible and passionate team—it just felt right!
In your opinion, what sets CARE apart?
What sets CARE apart is our steadfast commitment to patients. It's not just about serving one healthcare system's patients, but ALL patients in the South Sound. Dr. Senecal's expertise and passion combined with CARE’s resources, partnerships, and community support to bring innovative treatment and research options closer to home for patients is truly remarkable.
This work can be really difficult. What motivates you each day?
It can be difficult and emotional, but so rewarding at the same time. Making a patient’s day easier today than it was yesterday, and supporting trials that give them more quality time with their family makes me so happy.
What’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a new grandma! Being a mom to a mom is a whole new experience for me!
What are some hobbies or favorite activities you enjoy outside of work?
I love spending time with my family, whether it's fishing, hunting, enjoying the outdoors in Alaska, or traveling. Almost every February (except this one), we trade the Northwest winter for a sunny destination and enjoy family time.
