“I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in October of 2017. I was never sick before. Even when I found the lump originally in 2017, I never thought they would call and tell me it was cancer.
I finished treatment in November of 2018 and then was re-diagnosed in 2020 with stage 3. After another year and a half, I have now been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic triple negative breast cancer.
My first diagnosis, I didn’t have any “people.” It was cancer, hospital, home. Working with the South Sound CARE Foundation I have a whole new world of people who are helping.
I met Jodi (Thiel, Cancer Research Coordinator) and she is always there for me. Our first visit she was the little square in the corner on the Zoom call when I met with Dr. Blau. Having Jodi alongside me and any time I need something is huge.
I am now part of the All4Cure platform where doctors can pitch in from all over the world. I am waiting for my oncologist to present to the tumor board. They all strategize about my specific case and share information on drug combinations that have worked for them. Maybe someday something will pop up that will be magical.
We are all a little more thankful for the sunshine and the good days that we have.
I have needed hope before and to have people just randomly show up and want to help people with cancer is just unbelievable. I have never been part of something like this. To help a person they don't know. To be there and help people that have cancer is amazing. I have seen it first hand and it is emotional. It's a miracle.”
