Beer & Bites 2024: Raising Hope & Record-Breaking $1.3M!
On Saturday, October 5th, 575 guests gathered at The Waterfront Venue at Narrows Marina for the 11th annual Beer & Bites fundraiser, raising a record-breaking $1.3 million for cancer research, trials, and hope for a cancer-free future!
Radiating with positivity and purpose, we ate, we drank, we bid, and we celebrated the night away centered by our community and one another, with hope in our hearts. Read on for highlights!
We heard stories full of love, strength, and resilience—poignant reminders to us all why this night matters so much:
This year’s Fund-A-Need, made possible through a $100,000 gift from The Hokold Foundation, introduced Adeline and Barbie, two incredible community members fighting Glioblastoma. With your support, both women are now enrolled in a compassionate use trial of NEO100, a promising new Glioblastoma treatment.
After one year of treatment, Adeline’s tumor shrank from a lemon to an acorn, restoring her energy and precious time with family.
Just two months into treatment, Barbie is already finding relief from debilitating headaches, giving her more quality moments with her husband, David.
Our cherished Founder, Dr. Frank Senecal, delivered a heartfelt speech that resonated with everyone in the room.
Cradling his granddaughter, Zoe, gently in his arms, he expressed gratitude to our small but mighty team, as well as to our dedicated medical partners and supporters. Then he shared, “I’ve been in practice here in Tacoma for 40 years,” prompting a standing ovation from the crowd. With a warm smile, he added, “It’s been my privilege to be here. We’ve raised our family here. This is a remarkably good community with great healthcare systems.”
Energy and paddles were high during the live auction, fueled by the generosity of 156 remarkable donors:
At one point, 61 paddles shot into the air at the $1,000+ level—it was truly a sight to behold!
The highest bid of the night? $38,500 for a private jet trip to Napa with dinner at the world-renowned French Laundry.
Our dessert auction—arguably the sweetest part of the evening—raised over $10,000 to support vital cancer research!
This night wouldn’t have been possible without the 75 passionate volunteers who dedicated countless hours to everything from donor coordination and registration to bartending and clean-up—THANK YOU!
What You Made Possible
Since 2013 to date, Beer & Bites has raised over $10 million to bring cutting-edge cancer research and clinical trials to the South Sound, providing life-saving treatments close to home where patients have the support of their loved ones and communities.
As Barbie’s husband, David, shared in this year’s Fund-a-Need video: “All these little victories give us hope.”
And with your support, these little victories—and so many more—are possible.
Thank you for another incredible year!
